Bella Vista Invitational
Two Nevada schools attended the Bella Vista Invitational 5k, held at Sierra College in Rocklin, CA, on Saturday, October, 18.
The Reno girls were the only Nevada girls' team and won with 18 points and a team time of 99:23. Second place Vacaville scored 67 points and a team time of 115:23. The Lawrence sisters, Collier and Mel, placed first and second with times of 18:46.18 and 18:46.83, respectively. This was close to the large school meet record of 18:41, set by Santa Rosa's Jenny Aldridge in 2001, but this was a slightly different course this year so comparison is difficult. Two California runners came third and fourth, but only one was a point-scorer. Then came Reno's Daryan Glenn, Nicole Lajeunesse and Michelle Glenn in order.
The Galena boys won, edging out the Reno boys 40 points to 46. The team times were 87:16 for Galena and 87:06 for Reno. Reno was without its number two runner, Joseph Parker, who was nursing an injury. The Individual winner was Reno's Jonathan Cardenas while Galena's Stephen Pottey was second. Jonathan was 16 seconds off of his meet record of 16:00. Reno's David Shackleton and Leif Anderson came in fourth and eight, respectively, while Galena's Raul Tibaduiza and Dan Geib came in 7th and 11th. Thus, it was Galena's Michael Van Antwerp and Sanddon Sherwood, coming in 16 and 17, that tipped the balance in Galena's favor.
